Peru becomes Slacklines Team World Champion at WSM Munich 2019

The SLACKRACK in Action: Proper balance and coordination training is essential for the Bundesliga soccer players to improve reaction time, and reduce the risk of injuries.

PERU BECOMES SLACKLINE TEAM WORLD CHAMPION!

The mixed weather on Sunday evening doesn't deter the spectators, densely packed, from witnessing the breathtaking tricks performed by the Peruvian brothers Choza and Renzo Robles on the slackline. Their demanding and precisely executed performance, especially in the unique tandem mode, crowns the two Peruvians as the winning team and Trickline World Champions of 2019.

The local team "Bandlbuam," consisting of Bavarians Marius Kitowski and Simon Meirandes, earns points with spectacular double somersaults. However, in the quarter-finals, the crowd's favorite unfortunately can't prevail against Team Japan. "As trickliners, we know each other very well, so you're happy for each other," confirms Kitowski. "Even if you find yourself facing each other in competition."

Representatives from eight different nations, featuring 24 of the world's best trickliners, gathered in the Bavarian capital over the past weekend to showcase their skills on the slackline. Tricklining is a modern sport that combines the spectacular tricks of trampoline jumping with the balancing fun of slacklining: Athletes on a tightly tensioned slackline outdo each other with increasingly daring jump combinations, flips, and crazy aerial maneuvers at heights of up to 7 meters. Precision, coordination, and the highest physical performance are essential for this. In the Team World Championship, athletes compete in pairs. Once a team falls off the slackline, the time for the opposing team starts – this dynamic element makes the Team World Championship attractive and spectacular for the audience.

GLOBAL CITY BALANCE CHALLENGE

Many, like Lisa (22) from Sendling, only know slacklining as a leisure activity in the park: "I didn't think you could do such crazy things on the slackline." She plans to learn how to balance on a slackline in the interactive area later. And the supervised slackline area is well-attended. On the provided slacklines, stretched over so-called slackracks, people of all ages practice balance. Thanks to the professional assistance of the supervisors, this works surprisingly well. The success of this special sport in Munich is not least due to the Munich Slackline Association, which organizes regular slackline meetups and offers courses for beginners up to advanced highline workshops.

Many visitors also want to support Munich's world record attempt. The title of the "Most Balanced City in the World" will be awarded to the winner of the Global City Balance Challenge, where cities like Dublin, Tokyo, New York, and Stuttgart also compete: While the Swabians brought only 546 people on the slackline for 10 seconds, Munich manages a whopping 730 balancers! However, the world record stands at exactly 800 balancers on a single event day and is still held by Ireland. "If it hadn't rained repeatedly, we would have broken the record," says Heidrun Messner, head of the Munich Sports Festival.

JIBLINE CONTEST

Furthermore, a Jibline contest takes place. Jiblining is a form of tricklining where the slackline is much lower to the ground, making it suitable for entry into the sport, as you can start with simple tricks and low risk. The focus of the Jibline contest is on coordination and rhythm. The audience sets the rhythm for the slackliners through the rhythm of applause.

The best Jibline performance to the cool beats of DJ Mined Forrest is delivered by Estonian Jaan Roose, who secures victory with outstanding technique, a sense of rhythm, and tricks such as somersaults and complicated dance steps. To the excitement of the audience, Peruvian Rosa Tokumoto enters the finals with beautiful static balance tricks, making it difficult for the judges to evaluate the two very different styles.
